Climbing a Tree… To See Jesus!

Have you ever climbed something because you wanted a better view?

Today we’re going to learn about a man who climbed a tree just to see Jesus.
Lesson Summary: Who Was Zacchaeus?
Zacchaeus lived in the city of Jericho. He worked as a chief tax collector, which meant he collected money from people for the Roman government.
Many people didn’t like him because tax collectors were known for cheating people. Although Zacchaeus had plenty of money, he still knew something was missing. He wanted to see Jesus.
Don’t Let Obstacles Stop You
Luke 19:1-4
When Jesus came to Jericho, everyone wanted to see Him. The crowd was so large that Zacchaeus couldn’t see. He was short. Instead of giving up, he climbed a sycamore tree.
Youth Lesson
Sometimes things get in our way. Friends may make fun of your faith. You may feel nervous about praying. You may not understand the Bible yet. Sports or video games may take all your time.
Just like Zacchaeus, don’t let obstacles stop you from getting closer to Jesus.
Jesus Knows Your Name
Luke 19:5-7
Out of everyone in the crowd, Jesus looked up. He didn’t say, “Hey you!” He said, “Zacchaeus.” Jesus already knew exactly who he was.

God knows your name, your family, your struggles, your fears, and your dreams. You are never forgotten.
Jesus Changes Lives
Luke 19:8-10
After meeting Jesus, Zacchaeus changed. He wanted to pay people back. He wanted to help the poor. His heart changed. Jesus didn’t just change his actions—He changed his life.
What Can We Learn?
- Keep seeking Jesus.
- Don’t let people stop you.
- Jesus knows your name.
- Jesus loves everyone.
- A real relationship with Jesus changes us.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving us just like You loved Zacchaeus. Help us never let anything keep us from following You. Help us remember that You know our names and have a purpose for our lives. Change our hearts so we can become more like Jesus every day.
